How to brush

How to brush with Apagard

Sangi's directions ask for more time than most people give their teeth. The tube says one thing, dental bodies say another, and both are worth knowing.

How much Apagard toothpaste should I use?

Sangi's directions say 1 to 1.5 cm of paste on the brush, which is 0.4 to 0.6 inch. A full ribbon along the bristles is more than the tube asks for.

How long should I brush with Apagard?

Sangi's directions say about 3 to 5 minutes, gently, ideally after each meal. MedlinePlus sets the floor for any toothpaste at 2 minutes.

Technique is the same with any paste

No toothpaste does the brushing for you. The American Dental Association's advice on angle and stroke applies to an Apagard tube as it does to any other.

A soft brush matters more with a long brushing time. Three to five minutes with hard bristles and a heavy hand is hard on gums.

Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

Should I rinse after brushing with Apagard?

Lightly. Sangi's directions say to spit out and rinse lightly after the 3 to 5 minutes, so that some of the paste's hydroxyapatite stays in the mouth.

What brushing alone does not cover

The same sources that set the two-minute rule also ask for more than a brush. Cleaning between the teeth is on every list.

And the American Dental Association's page names fluoride toothpaste. Apagard lists none. If you brush with Apagard, tell your dentist, and let them decide whether you need fluoride from another source.

Can I use Apagard toothpaste on sensitive teeth?

Apagard is not sold as a desensitizing toothpaste, and sensitivity has more than 1 possible cause. The American Dental Association says the treatment depends on the cause, so see a dentist first.

Sensitive teeth can be treated. The type of treatment will depend on what is causing the sensitivity.
